“Getting to Know” Surveys

Surveys are a simple and direct way to increase parent involvement in your classroom. By simply asking parents their opinion on various school topics can create positive relationship between parents and teachers. Parents are experts of who their child is. They can give the teacher direct answers for questions like:  What do they like? What do they dislike? What works best for them?

Allowing parents to be involved in decisions can encourage their own involvement and build stronger relationships with the teacher. The goal of these surveys is to allow teachers and parents to communicate about the needs of their child and their family. It also promotes open dialogue about discussing a student’s progress later in the school year. These surveys also highlights the needs of the family and what the schools can do to help. An essential part of student success is creating a team-based approach between parents, students and teachers. These surveys allow for the initial steps to be taken in finding out more information and creating a meaningful relationship with families.
