Parent engagement is always interesting to witness. At the high school level, after grade 9, parents aren’t nearly as involved in students school lives and decision making. This makes sense as students are becoming adults and need to start making choices for themselves. Still, I often witness a big difference in student outcomes based on parental involvement. Students who have more help and support at home generally do much better. Now, with that in mind I want to point out that it is not always parents fault. Some parents just have such little free time to give to their kids due to various reasons, some economical and other not. While I do feel parental involvement is important I know that sometimes it is a real struggle for some parents and they should not be shamed for it. All we can do is support.
